I have a lot of the old stuff and there's very little need to get multiples of models, so I usually only buy the new releases for my faction. 2 Dec 7, 2009 2:52 PM I considered PP Invitational as a Con. 3 Dec 7, 2009 2:53 PM Still painting my first army~ Otherwise I'd be attending tournaments to the tune of... one every month or two with an entrance fee of $5-$8 4 Dec 7, 2009 2:58 PM I play a lot of systems. WM, 40K, FoW, and other historicals. 5 Dec 7, 2009 3:06 PM When starting an army, I'll spend a lot in a month or two, but then just make the odd purchase after that. So at first, spending is very very high, but after that, is very slow as it is affected by new releases and changes to the game (like MK II). 6 Dec 7, 2009 3:22 PM There are few conventions close by and the return doesn't usually equal the investment. 7 Dec 7, 2009 3:26 PM Have a consistent casual play group at FLGS. Small tournaments infrequently held there. 8 Dec 7, 2009 3:29 PM I would love to play more, and thus my spending would rise accordingly. I just don't have a car, so I am quite limited. 9 Dec 7, 2009 3:42 PM While I understand the topic-gaming habits, a lot of the folks I see on the boards, including myself, are hobbyist first and then gamers. I spend much more time painting and putting together models than I do playing the game. It has probably more to do a lack of an LGS in my area that suports the game. As I get older, painting is something more realistic than traveling one hour just to get in two games. In fact, If I do attend Templecon this year, that will be the place where I do my majority of gaming while the rest of the year, I paint stuff. Hope this helps. 10 Dec 7, 2009 3:49 PM Games included 11 Dec 7, 2009 4:06 PM Just got back into 40k this year and had to rebuild several armies, hence the expense, current spending on a Y-over-Y basis more like 4-500 a year. 12 Dec 7, 2009 4:19 PM THis is historical. Me and my two boys are planning on going to GenCon this summer, so next year the numbers will be much larger. :> 13 Dec 7, 2009 4:23 PM I'm guessing my spending are towards the high end of those bands, possibly passing into the lower end of the next band. But I don't really have specific numbers for it. 14 Dec 7, 2009 4:24 PM I usually save up and buy online to maximize my purchase. 15 Dec 7, 2009 4:56 PM My answer to number 7 did NOT include hotel costs. 16 Dec 7, 2009 5:05 PM My gaming expenditures will tend to occur in waves - there will be periods where I don't spend any money on gaming, and then several months where I might spend $50 or so each month on new figures, paints, etc. 17 Dec 7, 2009 6:06 PM I don't shop monthly I buy sporadically but that was just the closest option. I rounded the tournment options up. Some years I go to two some years I only make it to 1. 18 Dec 7, 2009 6:06 PM I help run one of the local gaming conventions so to that I always end up donating more in extra prize support. This schews my spent at convention numbers up some. 19 Dec 7, 2009 6:37 PM Well I run a good number of events so I don't know if that counted. I do like to try to get a group and travel a bit to other locations. 20 Dec 7, 2009 8:06 PM I am a single parent, and can't really go out to much until he's 5-6 years old, than I'd take him to a couple more conventions. Also: "two wrong don't make a right, but two Wrights make a plane." 21 Dec 7, 2009 9:38 PM college kid. money is going elsewhere 22 Dec 7, 2009 11:21 PM I travel to ALOT of conventions. Living the life baby. ;) 23 Dec 8, 2009 12:38 AM You didn't specify that this applied to only Warmachine/Hordes, so I included HeroClix, which may skew the results since 'Clix tournaments are weekly affairs. 24 Dec 8, 2009 1:38 AM It would be interesting to have a better definition on "gaming" - Just warmachine? All wargaming? What about roleplaying games? Boardgames? What is the split between models and accessories (paint, brushes, etc.) 25 Dec 8, 2009 2:14 AM I run more than 12 events a year between MonPoc and Warmachine/Hordes. 26 Dec 8, 2009 2:18 AM Main convention I go to is PAX. My spending is divided about 60 percent computer gaming, 40 percent miniatures gaming. 27 Dec 8, 2009 2:45 AM I most likely spend more, but low balled it a bit, because my spending can be erratic, I can spend nothing for a month or two(other then small things, tape measures, a 9 dollar solo), then I will drop 400+ Dollars on gaming things, which makes it hard to track. 28 Dec 8, 2009 3:45 AM Limited monetary amounts to my wargaming habit. Including RPGs drastically skews things, both upwards in price and upwards in purchase frequency. 29 Dec 8, 2009 3:57 AM I buy up all kinds of models but I'm more a collector than a player. 30 Dec 8, 2009 4:16 AM you should probably clarify what currency the dollars are in 31 Dec 8, 2009 4:26 AM I mostly participate in a lot of local tournaments, but I should be attending a gaming convention about once or twice a year. I've been gaming for about three years; so I haven't had a chance to attend one yet. 32 Dec 8, 2009 2:49 PM Some of my convention expenses might seem a little odd, since one of the cons I usually attend is completely compensated for due to the fact that I am doing demos for various games at a booth rented by my LGS. Because I volunteer to help out the booth and promote gaming at the store, the owner completely compensates me for the weekend, getting me an exhibitor pass and paying for all my food/drinks. If it somehow happened that the weekend wasn't compensated, I would still attend the con, but I could see my con expenses doubling for the year. 33 Dec 8, 2009 5:46 PM A large portion of the money I have spent over the past three years has been in the form of store credit at my LGS. The store has auctions 2-3 times per year and I receive store credit for old, unwanted items. Honestly, if I didn't have the store credit or gift certificates, I would have a hard time justifying spending that much money per year (I have 4 older children.) Store credit and gift certificates allow me to ease my conscience. 34 Dec 8, 2009 7:01 PM If my children were older and all family members employed I would more than likely attend 2-4 conventions a year and a tournament monthly. 35 Dec 8, 2009 7:22 PM not a gamer, just a painter, but I do love to paint the Warmachine miniatures which is why I did this survey 36 Dec 10, 2009 12:29 PM I think a better question might be how much do you spend on average each month. 37 Dec 10, 2009 2:48 PM i used to be quite heavily into games workshop but have transfered over to pp now and am lovin the lower start up costs and smaller armies, hence less outlay 38 Dec 13, 2009 6:17 AM I'm based in Europe, but leave most of my gaming purchases to the one/two trips I make to the USA each year. The weak dollar makes a compelling argument!
