That's pretty much what I was thinking. At this point I'm probably going to go with Legion, and just avoid using infantry as much as I can. Also, I think my mistake last time was buying a huge amount of infantry at one time. This time I'm going to make sure to paint as I go (which considering my work schedule and other stuff happening here in Japan should slow down my purchases as well as making sure I don't burn myself out). Thanks for the comments!

I think legion is the more aggressive of the two playstyles. Circle is more about defying expectations or changing the flow of the battle, Legion is more about getting into your opponent's face and ignoring his defenses.

Sounds like Absylonia is your caster for Legion at least ^^
Very aggressive, just beasts and support.

In Circle it sounds like Baldur is your kinda guy. No fur on Wolds :)

@ Jake: It's definitely going to fail [Curse you, League of Legends], but I'm hoping to get at least some work done. :D

You may wish to remove the Paragraphs regarding Soul Hunters and the Blood Hag.

With the changes to his feat (no large based models can be returned) and the re-wording of the Hag, these 2 paragraphs no longer apply.

Good write up btw.

Very concise analysis, two thumbs up! I think the Wraith Witch is by far the most versatile and interesting Warcaster in the Cryx Army. Maybe not too easy to learn but so rewarding to master. I really like fielding her with the Voodoo Gator and a full Revenant Crew - behold the slaughter when they arrive practically unscathed to wreak havoc on her feat turn. Very messy indeed...

I love that you are seriously considering E Nemo for Hardcore! I had been playing him almost exclusively for the first 2 months of Mk II. However, I'd not sure if I feel comfortable enough to take him in that event. Right now I'm looking at Siege. E Stryker has tempted me as well, but I've always liked Siege alot and he's more of a tool box for hardcore.

I'm actually looking at using E Nemo for MM/TC hardcore on Friday night. I just have to get the other 2-3 chargers done...

I should still be able to make DieCon thanks to Flanzer letting me crash there and a lot of friends carpooling with me to make the drive cheaper. Aside from the Con-fee and meals, I should be A-OK for DieCon.

I can live without the Cannon o' Doom.

As it stands, I'm still leaning more towards Highborn, just because I can use my Precursor Knights and Gun Mages from my currently-on-shelf Cygnar Force.

Will figure something out, for sure! Preferably sooner than later.

Talion! It must be done!

Too bad you won't be able to bring the cannon unless you've got Shae. Issues if you've got the random caster thing going.

Think he'll have a breath weapon? He seems to have this draconic feel to him. Obviously terminus has that 10 inch draconic spray but perhaps Venethrax will have some type of breath attack too. I just hope he's not to anti hordes focused.

If you're a bad player Stu, then there are a crap ton of people who royally suck. Stu, you're a good player. Remember, we're all playing new factions and things are more unfamailair for some rather than others. Besides, didn't I see Sevy beat Mulg down in HtH combat the other night? ;)

Stu, if you're a very bad player what does that say for me? lol I totally agree w/Dave's statement. While we haven't played against each other in quite some time, it is definately NOT due to not having fun playing against you.

Well, it's hard to measure. Not because of the time, but just because They're large and repetitive. I know this sounds dumb, but I don't hate doing a bunch of infantry models, because they're tiny. This is like painting a 5 Lancers. It's not really too bad, but you're doing the same thing over and over again. The plastics are nice, overall, but this is not GW. There isn't a lot of variety in pose.

Your Bastions look really good as well as Rhoven. Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to paint one Bastion? In another month or two, I'm going to be painting mine and wanted to know the time sink involved.

Hi Vader,

I'm so pleased you like our ideas. Most definitely use them! Just do me a favor and post some time how you decided to modify/add to them and what the outcomes were in your community so we can learn from your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hi Mike,

I'd love to see more qualifiers in our organized play leading up to the Masters at GenCon. Things that go up from the regional level, to state wide, to sections of the country. I'm dreaming big!

Rules arguments are one thing. If rules are vague (and there are very few now in Mk II,) I believe that it comes to the maturity of the players to have a TO arbitrate, or just roll off. I honestly don't see many people getting in a huff because of how the rules are written, but more often of "here's the kind of people they are/role they play, so they should therefore do this" variety. A common example I heard during the Field Test was about Cygnarans losing Fearless almost completely.

Yes, this is a game. However, games of this type are a social function. If you wanted a game where the social contract doesn't apply, there are several video games that offer wonderful single player experiences. Miniatures, though, require someone else, and I believe that if you don't recognize that, you will be hard pressed to find opponents soon. I won't deny that there are people who come for things other than a social experience, but when talking about sportsmanship, that's pretty much the key topic. Painting, fluff, and rules knowledge do not impact most people's minds when giving out sportsman rankings. How they conduct themselves and act during their game enters into every time. I'm not saying bake a batch of brownies for everybody, but in order to develop your "inner sportsman" or whatever, you need be a generally agreeable dude.

Your logic's wobbly. You talk about leaving the fluff at home and then give an example of someone being a douche over what is and ain't overpowered, which is a rules thing.

I agree with your general principles, but I don't agree with your solution. I've had many - more, in fact - vociferous arguments over rules and balance and errat and play than I have over background. Which isn't to say that background doesn't cause 'em too, and I'm as disappointed as anyone when someone overidentifies with their faction or game or hobby and uses that as an excuse to douche out.

I have to disagree with your base principal. Warmachine isn't "to be social" to me, it is a game first and foremost, the side effect of which are being social and seeing others painted models. While I agree with the sentiment of your post I think you should step back from your own view point and consider the others (maybe a series of posts?). You're taking the social-gamer view point and ignoring the painting guy who plays rarely but loces to paint his models, the fluff nut who just plays for the storys that happen and me, the anti-social jerk who plays purely for the game.

>>the avatar did pitch the maticore in the general direction of the Hydra

Keep in mind it's the Guardian that pitches, not the Avatar. It was a good game. Hopefully I'll have some extras painted next time for a little more variety.

I thought of that but decided against it. I didn't think I'd get enough responses to have a representative sample in each age group to drawn any conclusions. It would be interesting to see how these factors are affected by age though.

What the survey should include is an age bracket. the differance of those who dont drive yet and the differance who do. Or those who work and those who attend school. May shed some more light.

They look pretty sweet, especially the Hydra. Unlike most of the versions I've seen, yours doesn't look boring - well done for choosing the two-colour scheme, it does the model a great many favours. One thing I might suggest is to play about with your lighting and background in the photographs: there are some very strong shadows there which, while very dramatic, make it hard to see parts of some models (like Aiyana's face).

Interestingly kilvati, the rules as written don't prohibit that at all. The same thought crossed my mind, but I figure practically speaking it won't be exercised often because of how difficult it would be to physically orient yourself around tables that are lined up one after another. I suppose if you could easily turn the table 90 degrees, it might be exercised.

For primer, I tend to go with Dupli-Color automotive primer in either grey or red-brown. Over the years I've used Armory Primer, GW Primer, Testor's Primer and have found Dupli-Color the best. I'll give P3 primer a try when I run out of the Dupli.

Good article. Thanks for mentioning the issue of the primer chipping - I've had a problem sometimes with it chipping off like a candy shell and I get so frustrated trying to cover it up. I'll give P3 a try and see how it goes.

I don't know what Penguin means by "you're using it wrong". It's primer, not rocket science, the instructions are on the can.

If the GW primer is coming out that thick you're using it wrong or have a bad batch. It doesn't obscure detail unless you try to make it do so. Learn to use the primer better maybe?

Hyper senses : You forgot to mention that you can also turn around when someone enters your melee range negating their backstrike bonus.

Guided strike : on a average roll this skill is useless, even on a very good roll this skills dosnt become very fury efficient.

Fatewalker : This skill is most effiecient when used by a warlock because it allows him actions and speed at the same time. Mordikaar can move and shoot and then move again.

basicly the only reason I take molik karn is that he has a speed 6. All other stuff I can easily live without.

Nevertheless, I like it! Good work.

Believe me, Jason, I wish I could buy them in big cans. I wouldn't even mind if the price stayed proportional (well, I wouldn't mind much.) Their sealant is not only the best quality I've seen, but it's also the most weather-tolerant one I've seen, too. Adaptibility and quality mean I'm willing to spend above average.

I don't think it's so much "nerf it because it's broken" so much as reduce it's power a little to bring it more inline with the average. Sorscha is a perfect example. She didn't get nerfed because she's still a good caster, but she is less powerful than before and more inline with most other casters.

I've got a nice big post going up tomorrow with a quick overview of some of the Menoth stuff. The big question for me was what was going to happen with Rhoven. In the end, pending clarification on Negation, I think they may be close to autoinclude against Hordes for me. Time will tell.

Oh, and for the record Daughters will always be hotties for me. I liked them in Mk I, I like them in Mk II, and the models are a lot of fun to paint.

It's a chromatic shifting pigment that changes color as the angle of light striking it is moved. Take a look at a $20 bill... some of the 20s in the corners shift from a red to a green to a silver. That's the same technology and type of pigment but not the specific one Legal Gun will be using. One of the few benifits of being a paint chemist... you get the left over retains and scraps to share with friends. I was actually thinking about using the Blue to Red shifing pigment on my Retribution for highlights but changed my mind at the last minute when I decided to keep my scheme a bit simpler and quicker to duplicate... I'm hoping to keep my painted % on my "Angry Elves" higher than my other factions.

Same problem as Harbinger, really: Big base makes him rather easy to pop from a range.

That, and I'm not a huge fan of his model. ;)

In some comunities you could say that about any caster. I tend to see Caine a lot more from the typical Cygnar player here in St Louis. Add in the fact that I've had the model for years and never used it on the field and Denny is my typical goto Cryx caster and it all worked for me.

Also for the record I have no intention of running the old Haley turtle or to not be agressive with her. Not saying I won't use TempBarrier but expect it to be more for the drop in defense and messing with my opponents abilty to charge as I'm moving up field.

As far as Kraye goes, he's a phenomenal model who really can make jacks shine (at least in MK I he could). The problem being that I'm using this to have a reason to paint my Cygnar... with him I could easily avoid the units and give myself an easy out.

The Darius I picked up awhile back was "Modded" with the helm down, something I didn't know till I'd comitted to bying it and I'm not looking forward to painting him.... I know kind of a weird reason.

Seige is partially painted already as I used to run him in my Cygnarish lists alot as well as normal Caine. Most likly I'll finish painting them but won't use them in Fight Club because of what I percieve as "previous" experince.

From what I remember Darius took a beating in the field test as well so I expect he has more of a chance to change between what we've seen and the final version. I like to plan things and I'm guessing Haley will be close to what we saw in the field test document.

@Penguin
As much as i would love to feel molik in every list the fact is that hes too expensive at 500 points for most casters with Makeda being the one caster id field him with. For the price of molik i can pay for both beasts and save the rest of the points for the infantry that most of our casters desperately need.
@Rynth
YES!
@Skism
I FORGOT TO INCLUDE THE EXTOLLER IN MY LIST. Thanks for catching that. I write so fast sometimes i forget a model.
I agree that the shaman or savage is a better model than the drake. I wanted to try the drake to see if his animus was any use with the venators. It wasnt ever a factor so i will move to one of those two models. I think i might stick with the savage because i think he is a much needed aggressive element.

I appreciate the comments and constructive criticism. If there is any list/model/topic people want to see let me know.
Thanks

I've had good success with a similar Hexeris list.
In mine I only have 8 Venators, added an Extoller Soulward and swapped the Drake for a Shaman.
The soulward adds a lot of versatility to the venators and helps vs incorporeals.
The Shaman is more aggressive than the Drake, can drop another Krea animus(at low DEF targets), helps against incorporeals/Vilmon, and debuffs big threat attackers(especially when he gets the Ghost Sight.

Molik is way expensive at 500 points. He can be made to work, but(IMO) too often at the cost of too much of the army.

No Molik? While he doesn't have AD, you can use his animus to make him have a fake AD, which you can then use on Hexeris to do exactly the same thing.

Skorne does have denial, but not in the same way that Deneghra does. And I am pretty sure that I am sticking with her over eDenny, but nothing has been really set in stone yet, but I am about 90% sure.

I think the War*itch... I mean Warwitch is a good choice to start out with. I applaud Monkee for admitting that she is out of his comfort zone. Playing against her and playing with her are two totally different things and I'm sure Monkee will get a handle for Denny.

Great job Monkee! :)

That is why you just kill hte Hero and you don't get hit. He will only have like 2 wounds in MK2 so it will be easy.

I'm on your team, Vader. Tell Flanzy to go smoke his Khador. Good caster choices, and be sure to use the Hero with Return Fire. You miss him or hit him, he hits you back. So cool...

Lazarus Fugue was a devout Morrowan gunmage turned pistol wraith. When I was playing in one of Dave's Witchfire Trilogy runs Lazarus was my PC. He was slowly corrupted by an infernal (at least, I think that's what it was). Then in a confrontation with Alexia, she skewered Lazarus with the Witchfire and his soul was torn out. He just turned bad after that and apparently went to work for the Cryxian Empire.
