Friday, 6/4/10. DieCon approaches!

I awoke really early, like around 6.3o something. I just couldn’t sleep, I was so excited! That, and there was sunlight beaming right onto my face. So I poked and plodded around quietly for a while, and then Flanzer awoke at 7.30. All of us arose around then, bit by bit. We took showers, and Flanzer and I went off to pick up Eric D [Poise on the forums], as he was flying in from Atlanta.

Good Morning!

Good Morning, Naked Flanzer.

We got to the airport, picked up Eric, and stopped at Steak and Shake for breakfast. Yummy yummy burgers and shakes in the morning.

We got back while people were getting ready to leave. In the meanwhile, Eric did some highlighting. That’s Casey watching in the background.

Eric D.

"Highlighting"

We headed out after getting the other guys some breakfast, and headed onwards to the CON! We got there, and met a good assortment of jokers and clowns.

Still Dave

Oh god, they DO smell! Iron Agenda Dave smells what the Rotten Peaches are cooking!

Matty O

Matt O/Gearloop and Eric building lists for the Trains Event!

STUUUUu

Dammit Stu, yes, I did shower! Why do you ask?

So, the Trains Event went under way. I didn’t play in it. Why not? Because I had bigger fish to fry. If you guys may remember, I kinda sorta won Privateer Weekend ’09, narrowly pulling away from Lord Tyrant Watt, our Skorne resident guru of the PP boards, Mr. Jason Watt. Him and I had been smack talking a bit on the PP Gen Discussion in the DieCon thread, and so we had a game to play… 150 points of DOOM!

Game 1: 150 pts vs Lord Tyrant Watt.

150 Points

Watt and his 150 points of Retribution!

His list… is roughly this. I may be off, so he can post it himself.

Garryth, Ravyn, Rahn, 5 heavies [1 Phoenix, 1 Manticore, 3 Hydra], 4 lights [1 Griffon, 2 Chimaera, 1 Gorgon]. 2 units of MHSF w/ UA, 3 MHAs, 2 Ghost Snipers, 2 units of Stormfalls, 1 unit of Houseguard Rifles, 1 unit of Houseguard Halbers w/ UA, 1 unit of Invictors w/ UA, 2 units of Battle Mages, 2 Magisters, Madelyn, 2 Arcanists, Narn, Epic Eiryss. I want to say that’s all, but I’m sure I’m off. Oh yeah, Aiyana and Holt.

It's a me

Me/Z and my 150 points of nearly all painted Cygnar!

My list:

E-Haley w/ a Lancer, bonded Hammersmith, and an Ironclad.
Stryker w/ a Lancer, Rowdy, Hunter, and a Centurion.
Siege w/ a Defender, Sentinel, Thunderhead, and Cyclone.

2 Journeymen, 1 Squire [E-Haley], Reinholdt [Siege], Laddermore, Strangeways, 6 Stormsmiths, Piper, P-Eiryss, GMCA.
ATGM + UA, Stormblades + UA, Full Sword Knights w/ UA, Full Stormguard, Full StormLances, Black 13, and Aiyana and Holt

The view, at the start of the game:

That's a full board.

Do we have room for more?

Well, he got the first turn. He Sniped a unit of MHSF, who rolled up and almost killed the Hunter. His army advanced.

My turn was backing up the Hunter so Arlan could repair it.

Here’s the thing. With 2 units of MHSF with UA, I couldn’t leave my DZ for fear of them just shooting right past my army and plugging my squishy casters. I advanced, killed a MHA with an Electroleap by killing a stormlance [whoops], and only wounded another. Siege got Sniped, and killed a couple of MHSF. Stryker feated for +5 ARM, to make sure he couldn’t Ravyn 2 of my casters on T2. In fact, he said as much, that if I hadn’t feated, I’d have probably lost Haley and maybe Stryker.

So, instead, he just shot stuff, and did some good damage.

To be honest, the game was really one-sided the entire way. I was wrecking his heavies, but my army was clogged into my DZ thanks to the big forest in the center, and the inability to push forward without getting my casters killed. It made the game a little tough, but it was still a fun game. It was going decently enough, until E-Haley got plugged by MHSF, and a Hydra finished her off. Siege got pulled by Battle Mages, and shot to death by Garryth and Ravyn. Stryker tried an Earthquake to drop Rahn and shoot him dead, but that didn’t work out, and Stryker succumbed the following turn.

Packing up that army took so. damned. long! But still, Watt is a great guy to play against, and we had a good game about figuring out the best way to kill each others armies. I didn’t do as well as I’d have liked, but I figure that’s building up good karma for the rest of the weekend.

The game took about… 4.5 hours including Deployment? I think? Should be around there.

Unfortunately, the Tide of War format only went to 100 points, so we had to score this game as a 100 point game [good for me, I guess?]. So, while we took a break and chatted about stuff, I looked for more games to play as the Trains event was still going on.

W/L: 0/1

Game 2: 35 pt Darius vs Matty K [mjk629] or whatever numbers.

Matty K

Matty K, with Alex in the background!

His list: E-Krueger, Megalith, Feral, Pureblood, Stones, Druids + UA,

My list: Darius, Rowdy, Stormclad, Ironclad, Jr, Squire, B13, Arlan, 3 Stormsmiths.

I got the first turn, and pushed up. He responded by pushing up aggressively as well.

So, my turn, I measure my Control range… hmmm. If the Stormclad runs, he can get into melee range of Megalith.

Grab a focus from the Squire. Allocate none. Arlan gives the Stormclad a focus. Stormclad runs into melee with Megalith. Darius advances, and casts Jack Hammer 7 times, killing Megalith and 2 of the Shifting Stones. Matty was a little mad at me; he didn’t see that coming, and he didn’t think that was really nice of me either. Sorry :D

He destroyed the Sclad the next turn, and had a good turn of coming back, but at that point Darius went into tank mode w/ Arcane Shield, sitting at 27 armor. He charged in, trying to wreck my caster, but he just couldn’t get through the high armor and wounds. I mopped up the next turn. It was a brutal brutal game.

W/L: 1/1

Game 3: 50 pt Darius vs Matt O and Vindictus Tier 4!

Matt

He looks happy because we haven't played yet :D

He had just dropped out of the Trains event because a Train killed his entire army :(

He wanted a 50, so I added a unit of ATGM + UA and a unit of Swordknights w/ UA, dropping the Stormsmiths and adding Piper. Used the same list as above.

So, I went first. Turns out that Vindictus gets to AD his jacks? WOW. I was impressed. His list was Vindy, 2 Crusaders, 1 Reckoner, 2 units of Errants w/ UA, and some other stuff; can’t thoroughly remember.

I roll up, he rolls up as well. Then I repeat what I did last game. Stormclad runs up, engaging the Reckoner and a Crusader. This is where we made a new strategy name:

The Full Investment Jack Hammer: Where Darius uses all his focus to make his warjacks attack by casting Jack Hammer repeatedly.

So, one Full Investment later, the Crusader was toast, and the Reckoner lost his mace arm and had taken other severe damage. He was a little taken aback, and then he got into gear. His one units of Errants was wrecking the Sword Knights, while the other unit was losing a gun battle with the Gun Mages [yay for elevation!]. The game ended with him pushing forward, but being unable to tie up or wreck the stormclad. Darius gave him 3 focus, and walked up, feated, positioned him out of combat, and Full Throttled, and 2 swings later Vindictus was felled.

Win!

W/L: 2/1

Then it was time for the 20 point Mangled Metal HARDCORE! I love this event! I had a blast last year with my Cryx, so this year, it was Cygnar’s turn!

My list: E-Stryker Tier 1. A smooth and even 20 points with his jack points, of course.

E-Stryker
Rowdy [bonded]
Stormclad [-1 PC]
Hammersmith

But, this event will be reported at a later time! This gives you guys enough stuff to read for a couple of days :D

Thanks for reading!
