DieCon 09: Saturday Part 2.9 – 4 x 1 Tourney Round 4!

Next round was against Chris Pratt [Xanathan]!

Xanathan and his Cygnar!

His list was pretty straightforward and loaded to bear with Armor:

Stryker
Ol Rowdy
4 Stormlances
Journeyman Warcaster

Ouch, 2 Arcane Shields, followed with Invincibility. Ugh. Ok, this game needs to be quick. My opponent is tired as well, so we get cracking. I prey on the cav, thinking that I should be able to move upfield quickly.

Which I do.

On his turn, he pops both his Arcane Shields, and advances up.

Nightmare then advances and tosses Rowdy back towards my lines. Deneghra advances, Parasites Rowdy and Crippling Grasps the Stormlances. She then feats, and laughs as her army gets ready to go in for the kill. The Bloodgorgers charge in… and bounce off Rowdy’s ARM 20. It was pretty miserable, actually, even with gang at POW 13, I couldn’t crack his ARM. They did better against the Cav, hurting them but not killing them yet.

In any case, his turn was rather poor due to his lack of any decent mat/rat stats. Nightmare was Stealthed for Stryker to miss, and the cav only got a couple of hits on the Trollkin, who lost a couple. Rowdy stood up and killed one, but nothing too drastic. Stryker advanced up and feated, catching Rowdy and a couple of Cav. Yuck.

My turn involved more trying to take out some ARM, and not being lucky enough to do that. Another clashing of weapons of ARM ensued, but I managed to nick and chafe a little. Nightmare did well, taking out one Invincible Stormlance.

While I wasn’t ‘winning’, I wasn’t losing, and it was starting to tell. Stryker had a plan though. He upkept the Shield, and allocated 3 to Rowdy. He shot and tried to kill the Bloodgorger blocking LOS to Deneghra, and failed. No worries, I said, “Oh look, you got him!” and pulled the model off the table to make the game a little more fun. We had some spectators, and we were all chatting and having a good time. Everyone was cheering on Rowdy, who had to take 3 freestrikes, and he charged Deneghra! And promptly took a pounding as my weapons finally started to swing true, destroying his Cortex. Whoops, can’t use focus. Well, he still hit Deneghra, but it wasn’t the charge attack. Phew! He clipped me with his Open Fist, dealing a lot of damage. It’s all right, thankfully, because Deneghra walked out with a nick.

My next turn, the Cryx army fell upon the Cygnar army and ate EVERYTHING. Those Bloodgorgers have sick eating habits. I pulled out the win, going 3-1 AGAIN. That’s 4 tourneys where I’ve gone 3-1 so far ;)

In any case, after the game, we dispersed before the final round, as only the finalists were playing in that round. I know that Rob [my previous opponent] won overall.
