After the fast win that I picked up vs Joe, I hung around and talked to people while awaiting the next round.

I met up with Amy, whom I had given my Cryx coin to.

Her First Cryx Coin!

My next game was vs Ray Bailer [Neomorte].

Broadside Ray, Master of the Mules!

Broadside Ray, Master of the Mules!

He was using Legion, and his army was:

Rhyas
Typhon
Warmonger Chieftan
Warmonger Unit

Wow, very similar armies on both sides of the table. One really nasty jack, a tough unit, and a tough solo. Medium bases everywhere!

I started by running up, with Prey on the Typhon. His response was to do the same. He put Unnatural Healing on Typhon [saved his butt].

I took my Deathtracker move towards Typhon, figuring an early charge. 3 focus to Nightmare, and the Bloodgorgers ran up to get up ahead. Deneghra charged one of them and feated, catching his whole force. She Death Raged Slaughterborn as well. Nightmare charged into Typhon, and even with her feat and Death Tracker, he failed to kill it.

His turn, Tyhpon managed to break Nightmare’s movement, and fling him away. That was it for that jack! His warmongers walked up, but didn’t manage to do much due to the inability to charge. The Warchief also rolled up, getting ready for the next turn.

My turn, I needed to kill that Warchief before Rhyas feated. The Bloodgorgers went in, and killed all but 2 Warmongers. Slaughterborn charged and killed his Legion counterpart with ease with his three attacks. Deneghra charged Typhon, staying out of charge range from Rhyas using her Reach, and Shadow bound him. I didn’t do much damage, but I did take out his Mind aspect, and used Crippling Grasp on him and held onto 4 focus [had one from a soul token from the Bloodgorger].

Then, the unthinkable! Typhon frenzied, and I thought that was a good thing. Sadly, it was not as good I would like, because Typhon hit Deneghra with his attack on 2 dice, and thankfully, rolled poorly on damage but did drop her by half her hit points. Rhyas feated, and charged and killed a Bloodgorger, going invisible. His Warmongers cut a BLOODY swath through the Bloodgorgers, and I only succeeded in making 1 of my tough checks. Thankfully, they did not make it to Deneghra with their bounces, and one of them missed my second to last bloodgorger.

I was losing this one if I didn’t do anything. She was invisible, so I couldn’t spell her. Ok, well, I ran Slaughterborn up to Rhyas to be the Scourge bait. Next, Deneghra scourged him, dropping him and Rhyas to the ground. She had fury, but no room to transfer because Typhon was frenzied. Deneghra was in range, and so she walked up around Typhon, and smacked Rhyas a few times. I rolled EXACTLY enough to kill her, or else I was going to be toast next turn. I only had 2 focus, meaning 3 attacks, and at a -2, I managed to do the 16 damage I needed. Phew! Close game, and him and I talked for a bit after the game.

He was the winner of GuruDojo’s HardCore list competition, with his Bart and 4 heavies list, and it was the list that was featured as the prize for the winner of DieCon 09. We talked a bit of strategy, and then, off to the next round!
