2 Angels
Typhon
Harrier
Seraph
2 Forsaken
Gobbers
Nephilim Soldier
Shredder [?]
+ Whatever I forgot, again :)
So, this is good. I’m up against a heavy beast army, and he can pop out a freebie 1 VP if I hit him hard [which I do a lot of]. Those Angels are problematic, but Typhon even more so. He’s playing an almost mirror list; heavies with support, and a big beefy ‘lock to beat on people with his whopping POW 18 sword.
Okay, so my mission was simple: Keep Thaggy engaged with cavalry while I pick off his beasts. I preyed on Typhon, because I didn’t want any of his flinging action all over the place. Especially with 3 really high POW sprays with Glory, I was going to be toast.
He deployed centrally, and so did I except for Darragh, who went on a flank again. He had to kill those Forsaken so that Termy could camp on Focus safely. I rushed up, as did he. Excellent, he advanced Typhon, and I used my Death Tracker to get into charge range. He realized his error, and sent up the gobbers and dropped a cloud in front of Typhon, but the Angel next to Typhon was in it, so I could see him.
3 focus and a Ravager go to Nightmare, who charges the Angel with his tusks, and then starts whacking on Typhon. My damage rolls were poor, and he had his regen animus up, but thankfully I managed to put him away using every single non tusk attack on him. I was hoping to kill him earlier, transfer prey to the angel, and kill it as well, but no luck. I roll up with my army, hoping to do a good counter. He can’t ignore Nightmare, who transfers his prey to Thaggy. Thaggy cast Glory and charged Nightmare, with no luck. He didn’t do much else with Thaggy, leaving the 2 Angels to finish off Nightmare. Okay, great, he’s dead, but I have a Seether who can charge and easily eat an Angel next turn.
Did I say easily? I mean leave it with one hit point left. I hate that. I had nothing else to damage the Angel, and now I had to start doing other stuff because that Seether was as good as dead. Darragh killed a Forsaken, and rolled around the back, forcing him to do something about it. I also Hellfired the Gobbers, who fled. The Soul Hunters smacked the Neph. Soldier on their charges, and between3 of them, finished it off. That was good. The Combine was floating around, trying to keep Termy from getting charged, who was staying back while the Angels were still alive. The Soul Hunters used their second move to engage Thaggy with one of them. Plan Sacrificial Cavalry was activated!
Thagrosh had to activate first to heal up his Angels and cast Glory, which means he was stuck having to kill that Soul Hunter. Yay Hubris! However, he did feat on his turn, meaning that I was in trouble. The Seraph missed Darragh because he didn’t boost for some reason. The Angels polished off the Seether with ease, and his Forsaken charged Darragh and tried to dismount him, but only did 7 points [phew]. His army was shrinking, but he still had those Angels. Then he surprised me. He advance on his feat turn, and the 2 Angels killed the Harrower! From naught! He rolled really well thanks to the Glory, and finished it off. But they were both in Termy’s range, time for Dragonboy to get into combat. The Seraph used the second attack to kill another Soul Hunter. His Harrier killed Tremulus in one beautiful bite.
Darragh whiffed miserably against the Forsaken, but managed to Hellfire him for a few points. The Soul Hunters ran up to engage Thagrosh again, while the Combine zapped the Harrier dead. Termy with 6 focus charged into the Angel pair, flaying the injured one in one hit with his claw, thanks to Malediction. I spent 3 focus killing the other Angel between my free sword swing and 3 more, leaving only Thaggy, Seraph, and his Forsaken. Since we had only a few models left, the turns started flying by.
He finally unhorsed Darragh with the Forsaken, and then killed him by charging the Seraph at him! Thagrosh killed all the Soul Hunters engaging him, popping out a bunch of smoke clouds.
Admonia and Malevolus charged him through the Eruption of Ash, and managed to land a couple of telling blows, causing him to transfer damage to the Seraph, causing him to lose his Spirit. Termy advanced up, sitting on Seether wreckage for cover, ready to charge into the youngling dragon after he thrashed the Combine.
Thaggy activated, cast Glory, and swung at the Combine members, killing them both. His Seraph then tried to slam, but I pointed out he had no Spirit, and thus could not slam. Since he forgot to heal, his Seraph was stuck not able to boost any rolls. He shot Termy, but without boosts, wasn’t able to do much.
I upkept Malediction, and Terminus charged into the poor Messiah. Thanks to Malediction, he was Def 11 and Arm 15, meaning I was hitting on 4s, and I was doing 2d6 +1. He had 2 Fury on him. He transferred the charge to the Seraph, who now had 2 hps left. Second swing, a Shredder popped out of him. Third swing, he transferred to the Shredder, who nearly died. I missed the 4th swing, but connected with the 5th, needing a 5 to kill him, which I did. I collected 24 Vps from him, but he managed 19 from me thanks to his destroying my army.
HC Tally: 3-1, 78 Vps. Phew. Okay, so I looked around for Stu and Watts, who were playing each other in this round. Turns out their game was a very one sided smash fest, as Molik Karn had charged E-Vlad on the second turn, and killed him on the third turn. Between the 2 of them, they only collected 10 VPs, meaning that I may have actually topped the VP charts!
The tourney ended, and we eagerly awaited the results. Well, we knew who won the Vanquisher Award.
Jason Watts [Lord Tyrant Watts] went 4-0, and walked away with the Vanquisher Medal.
Tim Simpson [DP6] picked up the Mage Hunter award for a 12:27 kill.
Dave Dankel [Einherjar] aka IADave from the Iron Agenda had a beautiful E-Thagrosh army that deserved the Master Craftsman medal. Again.
Then a special award was given out. Josh Saulter, of the Iron Agenda, received the St. Louis Gamers Hall of Fame Award!
Next up will be the 350 1-1-1-1 tourney. Thanks for reading this gigantic post!
