Hello,
Let the Painting Madness Begin! I have gotten myself out of my slump, stirred up my Painting Mojo, and got some serious work done.

First off, I have finished up the last two Nyss Hunters. And this now completes the unit. You will notice that the one on the right is missing his bow. I noticed this when I was assembling them. It's alright though, he doesn't really need it when he is charging you with that sword of his.

I really like how the whole unit came out. And the purple/punk theme really adds charactor to the unit.

Formula P3 Paints used:

Thrall Flesh, Frostbite, Beaten Purple, Carnal Pink, Murdeous Magenta, Greatcoat Grey, Coal Black, Khador Red Base, Exile Blue, Thamar Black, Trollblood Highlight, Cryx Bane Highlight, 'Jack Bone, Battlefield Brown, Gun Corps Brown, Rucksack Tan, Moldy Ochre, Menoth White Base, Menoth White Highlight, Radiant Platinum, Quicksilver, Yellow Ink & Mixing Medium

Games Workshop Citadel Washes used: Badab Black, Devlan Mud, and Leviathan Purple

After cleaning and assembly of the models. I gave the model a light spray of Dupli-Color Black primer. Once dry, I was ready to slap some paint.

I always start from the deepest recesses out. I usually will work on one area and complete it. Then move to the next. But I like to mix it up from time to time and will do all the basecoats, shade, highlight, final details, than the base. I have been painting like this more often lately. This helps with the overall composition and I can get an idea of how the paint scheme will look.

Skin:

-For the sickly, corrupted by Cryx, Nyss skintone. I mixed up Thrall Flesh & Frostbite in a 2:1 ratio for the basecoat.

-I added 1 part Greatcoat Grey to the basecoat, along with some Mixing Medium (4 drops) and water (6 drops) to make a wash. Applied this into the recesesses, the eye sockets, around the nose, the mouth, under the bottom lip, the earlopes, under the neck, inbetween the fingers. Wherever there is shadows.

-I then added 1 part Beaten Purple to the above wash and applied to the deeper recesses.

-Then I added 1 part Coal Black to the wash for the eye sockets.

-The pupils were painted Menoth White Highlight, leaving the previous wash around the eye. I then made a glaze with Yellow Ink, Mixing medium, and water. About a 1:4:7 ratio. I glazed the pupil with this to get that undead like stare.

-Re-Apply the basecoat mix and build up highlights by adding small amounts of Menoth White Highlight to the raised areas. The nose, cheeks, chin, tips of the ears, forehead, knuckles, etc.

-Beaten Purple was used as a basecoat for the hair. (Carnal Pink for Cylena)

-A wash of Leviathon Purple and very small amounts of 'Jack Bone was added for highlights.

-A 1:1:4:6 wash ratio of Carnal Pink/Murdeours Magenta/Mixing Medium/Water was used for Cylena. And very small amounts of 'Jack Bone was used for the highlights.

For the leather armor. I used the painting article in NQ #14 (the one for the Cephalyx Slaver) as a guide.

I mixed Khador Red Base and Exile Blue together. Roughly a 50/50 mix to get a purple color, than I added Coal Black (about 2 parts) and Thamar Black(1 part) to darken it a bit. I layered this over the black primer and slowly added Trollblood Hightlight for progressive highlights. About 2 layers and used the side of my brush to add the highlights. This technique keeps the highlights nice and crisp. I then added a bit of Menoth White Highlight for the final highlight on the extreme edges.

Straps/Sword Hilt/Fur Trim/Bow and Quiver

These areas were all given a basecoat of Guncorps Brown and than given a wash of Devlan Mud.

-Straps/Sword Hilt/Quiver- Rucksack Tan was added in small amounts to Guncorps Brown for highlights.

-Fur Trim- Drybrushed Cryx Bane Highlight, than Trollblood Highlight, with a final light drybrush of Menoth White Highlight on the highest points.

-Bow-Moldy Ochre was added in small amounts to Guncorps Brown and painted in thin lines to represent wood grain. The brighter highlights were kept to the outer edges.

Metals

-Basecoat with Radiant Platinum - Badab Black Wash, Devlon Mud was also added in small amounts on the sword and bow - light drybrush of Radiant Platinum, followed by a light drybrush of Quicksilver keeping to the edges.

The base had a rock/sand mixture glued to it. Making sure to keep the feet and the outer rim clean. Once dry, a basecoat of Battlefield Brown was applied. Make sure the Battlefield Brown is fully dry before you continue. Then drybrush with Rucksack, followed by a light drybrush of Menoth White Base, and an optional final light drybrush of Menoth White Highlight. Add static grass and paint the base rim Thamar Black and you are good to go.
